The Food Dock is an educational and hospitality space with an in-house Food Recycling Centre, with seasonal local produce that offers both house-grown produce and cutting-edge, sustainable food. This space aims to educate Southampton locals and visitors about the problems with our food security and the potential futures of our food supply.
Residents and local businesses can swap compostable waste for a discount on food and produce that is grown and served on-site. These unique foods have been curated and backed by research and is anticipated to be in our supermarkets and food supply in the future .
Education and exhibition space:
This offers a new way for locals and tourist to spend their leisure time in a city where spaces like these are part of the image
Food recycling centre:
Accommodation for both private owners and renters, as well as student accommodation show that there are groups of people who will be generating food waste.
Hospitality space:
Although there are established spaces of hospitality, none of these offer a garden to table concept in their spaces; this is a unique selling point for this design.
House-grown produce:
As well as serving the food, there will crops that are not usually found in supermarkets; Food of the Future. This also adds to the food market plan of the local council that would be established in the area.
